Zakir Hussain, an MLA belonging to Lok Janshakti Party, and his accomplice Bhola Shankar Tiwari were arrested from Kakarbhitta town on the Indo-Nepal border on Friday.

Hussain is accused of masterminding the kidnapping of Tulasi Ram Agrawal, a Nepali businessman of Indian origin hailing from Biratnagar in Nepal, in January 2002.

"The duo were convicted of kidnapping by Morang district court in March 2002 and were in our list of most wanted criminals," Nepal police DSP Uma Prasad Chaturbedi told 'Republica'.

Acting on prior information, Hussain and his accomplice were arrested minutes after they entered Nepal via Kakarbhitta in a Toyota car while they were taking rest in a hotel.

Agrawal was kept for 41 days in captivity following his kidnapping and released after paying a hefty ransom.

Another Bihar criminal involved in the crime has already been arrested by Nepal police and is serving time in prison.

Both Hussain and Tiwari would be produced before a court on Sunday.
