The formal announcement of a prime ministerial candidate for the coalition government led by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will be made by Bilawal, PPP spokesman Farahtullah Babar said in a statement.

He said the announcement will be made when the next session of the National assembly, lower house of Parliament, is convened for electing the Prime Minister.

The first session of the National Assembly was convened on March 17 and the lawmakers met today for the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker. The House will be convened again to elect the Prime Minister, which is expected some time this week.

All media reports about the name of PPP's prime ministerial candidate "are merely in the realm of speculation," Babar said.

19-year-old Bilawal left for Islamabad immediately after his arrival in Karachi from Britain, where he is studying at the prestigious Oxford University.

He was named the Chairman of PPP three days after the assassination his mother and party chief Benazir Bhutto in December last year. The former premier was killed in Rawalpindi after she addressed an election rally there on December 27.
