The blast occurred at a land revenue office in the temple town of Janakpur. "No one is critically wounded, it was a small blast," government official Balabhadra Giri said.

The area, about 100 km (60 miles) from Kathmandu, is located in the Himalayan nation's southern plains, where more than a dozen armed groups are fighting a low intensity insurgency for regional autonomy.

A Maoist-led government that took office in August has invited the rebel groups for talks but no date for the meeting has been set.

At least three people were killed in a bomb blast in a market place in the region earlier this month.
