Photos of Friday's blast posted online showed a gaping hole in the lower floor of a nondescript apartment block in the city of Nanyang in Henan province.

The Information Center for Human Rights and Democracy said the bomb detonated at 11 a.m. Friday, killing two people immediately and critically injuring two others. More than 100 residents were injured, the group said without citing the source of its information.

A nurse at the Nanyang Traditional Medicine Hospital, who would not give her name because she was not authorized to talk to the media, said five children and a teacher from a local kindergarten were injured by the blast. She said their injuries were not serious. Officials at the Nanyang government office and police department said they were unaware of the incident.
