A 60-year-old man, who was on life support at a city hospital, has died, health authorities said. The H1N1 virus and congestive heart failure were the reason behind his death at Toronto Western Hospital.

However, authorities are sceptical whether the H1N1 virus was a contributory factor in the death. This is the second death in Toronto from the virus which came to Canada immediate after its outbreak in Mexico.

Earlier, a 44-year-old man in the city's Scarborough area died from the virus May 23. With Tuesday's death, the toll from the virus in Canada has risen to three.

A 39-year-old woman in Alberta was the first Canadian to die from the virus in April. So far, 1,530 cases of H1N1 flu have been reported in the country.

As many as 57 people have been admitted to hospital after showing symptoms of the virus. Most of these cases have been reported in and around Toronto.
