Reports said the word ‘Ferrari’ was deleted from websites and no information was available on the crash either. The apparent hush-up by the government has triggered speculation that the deceased driver was the son of someone powerful in the government.

The incident occurred early on Sunday on ring road number four in Beijing. Two young women were in the car along with the deceased, said to be a young man; both women sustained serious injuries. They were moved to military hospitals and even their identities have been kept a secret.

The incident was surprisingly reported by state-controlled Global Times but it could not extract details about the victims. It later also ran a story about the attempts to delete all information about the accident.
