Two passenger trains collided in eastern Cuba, leaving three dead and injuring at least 93, the National Information Agency reported.

Two passenger trains collided in eastern Cuba, leaving three dead and injuring at least 93, the National Information Agency reported.

Two of the injured are said to be in a critical condition after suffering skull fractures.

Some 69 others have been hospitalised, but are said to be in a stable condition.

Authorities said they are investigating the cause of the yesterday's accident.

Minister of Transport Jorge Luis Sierra surveyed the crash scene in Sibanicu, in the province of Camaguey.

The Cuban government is investing 500 million dollars in the modernisation of the country's rail links, which have languished for decades.
