Curfew imposed in quake-hit Haiti capital

The authorities in the Haiti capital of Port-au-Prince on Sunday imposed a curfew to deal with the worsening law and order situation following the devastating earthquake.

The authorities in the Haiti capital of Port-au-Prince on Sunday imposed a curfew to deal with the worsening law and order situation following the devastating earthquake.

People have been driven to looting due to shortage of essential commodities, Xinhua reported quoting the media in the Dominican Republic.

The police and the UN Stabilising Mission in Haiti have ordered a curfew starting 6 p.m. Sunday in quake-hit Port-au-Prince. Helicopters are also barred from making overflights.

On Tuesday, an earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale, struck the Port-au-Prince, killing thousands of people. Armed men were seen Saturday raiding buildings where food and water were stored.
