Danny Boyle to direct 2012 Olympics

'Slumdog Millionaire' filmmaker Danny Boyle has been appointed as the artistic director of opening ceremony of London's 2012 Olympics.

'Slumdog Millionaire' filmmaker Danny Boyle has been appointed as the artistic director of opening ceremony of London's 2012 Olympics.

Along with the Oscar winner Boyle, filmmaker Stephen Daldry has been confirmed as creative boss to oversee all ceremonies at the sporting event, Digital Spy online reported.

Boyle, who helmed eight Oscar-winning Mumbai potboiler, said, "It's a completely unique opportunity to contribute to what I'm sure are going to be a fantastic games. I'm really excited to be involved."

Daldry, director of acclaimed films like 'Billy Elliot' and 'The Reader' said of his appointment, "Myself and my co-executive producers will ensure there is creative continuity across all four ceremonies, that the public have real engagement and that we continue to attract into the key roles the best talent in the world. I'm delighted to be part of the team."

Live TV events director Hamish Hamilton, Mark Fisher and Catherine Ugwu have also joined the team that will stage London's opening and closing ceremonies.
