Police officials in Dubai are completing formalities to hand over the four suspects arrested for stealing diamond jewellery worth USD 1.76 million in Mumbai, they said. A Mumbai police team will soon escort the group back along with the gems, the sources said. Mexican nationals Elvia Grissel Guerrero Lugo (24), Mauricio Gonzalez Maldonado (24), Elias Campos Molan (39) and Orlando Gutierez of Venezuela are said to have walked out of a jewellery show on Tuesday evening with diamonds weighing 887 carats.

According to police, the theft of the diamonds belonging to Israeli company Dalumi Group occurred at the India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) at NSE ground in suburban Goregaon despite tight security and surveillance. The group had put up a stall at the five-day exhibition. The suspects, who had swallowed the stones, were arrested at the Dubai airport after an Interpol alert was immediately issued by Indian authorities.
