A Japan Airlines flight bound for Tokyo made an emergency landing at an airport in Shanghai because of engine problems apparently caused after striking a flock of birds. No one was injured.
The plane took off from Hongqiao Airport at 2:30 pm (local time) yesterday with 208 passengers and 14 crew onboard but encountered engine problems 10 minutes later, the official Xinhua News Agency reported.
An initial investigation indicated the plane hit a flock of birds after take off, but further investigation was ongoing, Xinhua said late yesterday.
An operator at the general inquiry desk at Shanghai's Pudong International Airport confirmed today that a Japanese flight made an emergency landing there. Further questions were referred to the airport's information office, but calls there rang unanswered.
