Fonseka refused bail by SC

The Supreme Court of Sri Lanka on Tuesday refused to release former army chief Sarath Fonseka who has been in military custody since February 8. A Fundamental Rights petition had been filed in the top court by his wife Anoma for Fonseka’s release, reports HT Correspondent.

The Supreme Court of Sri Lanka on Tuesday refused to release former army chief Sarath Fonseka who has been in military custody since February 8. A Fundamental Rights petition had been filed in the top court by his wife Anoma for Fonseka’s release.

Though the court declined to let him out, it ruled that the former army chief’s immediate family and lawyers should have access to him. Fonseka could soon face a court martial under Sri Lanka’s Army Act for allegations of treason and conspiracy.

Reports said that Fonseka has refused to cooperate with investigators from the military police saying that he was no longer in the army.
