The propeller-driven DC-3 plane, owned by Victoria Asia Air Services, was trying to make an emergency landing when it struck a wall and then crashed into the warehouse and burst into flames in the Marikina suburb, the air transport office said.

"It hit the wall of a house and then crashed and hit the warehouse," witness Rudy Garcia said in a radio interview.

Civil aviation official Angel Atutubo said four bodies had been retrieved from the plane after the crash. There were no immediate reports of casualties on the ground.

The plane had just taken off from Manila airport for the western island of Palawan when the pilot suddenly called the control tower, saying he had to make an emergency landing, the officials said.

Police, firefighters and rescue teams rushed to the scene to put out the blaze and secure the area. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
