Two of the largest economies of Europe, France and Germany, have announced a roadmap for bilateral relations through until 2020, called 'Agenda 2020', comprising 80 projects in a wide range of areas.
The Franco-German plan was unveiled by French President Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel after a joint meeting of the two cabinets in Paris yesterday.
Around 80 joint projects in different fields have been planned for the coming years.
The plan draws close coordination of their economic policies, setting up of a Franco-German centre for renewable energy, the launching of a joint satellite for observing greenhouse gases and doubling of the bilingual courses in their universities, they said.
The two nations also want to simplify the procedures for Franco-German marriages, strengthen the cooperation between their police, create a joint maritime patrol unit for the river Rhine and digitalise their historical works in both the countries.
'Agenda-2020' includes the world's first cross-border demonstration project for electric cars, which will involve the German state of Baaden Wuerttemberg and the Alsace region on the French side.
The cars would be tested as environmentally sustainable means of transportation in the region between Stuttgart and Strasbourg.
