Two French reporters, Edith Bouvier and William Daniels, begged for rescue from a besieged Syrian opposition enclave, as President Nicolas Sarkozy branded the deaths of two of their colleagues “murder”.

Syrian insisted it could not be held responsible for the deaths of journalists who had “sneaked” across the border without visas and were working in ‘trouble-hit areas”.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 46 people, most of them civilians, were killed in violence across Syria on Thursday. Agencies
