Fukushima declared stable

The tsunami-devastated Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant has reached a stable state of “cold shutdown” and is no longer leaking substantial amounts of radiation, Japan’s Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda announced on Friday.

The tsunami-devastated Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant has reached a stable state of “cold shutdown” and is no longer leaking substantial amounts of radiation, Japan’s Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda announced on Friday.

But experts noted the plant remains vulnerable to more problems and it will take decades to decommission.

“The reactors at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant have reached a state of cold shutdown,” Noda told a Cabinet meeting.
