Gilani challenges Musharraf to prove his popularity in Pak

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has challenged former military ruler Pervez Musharraf to prove his claim that he continues to be popular in Pakistan by contesting any by-election in the country, while warning that all those who violated Constitution would "face the music".

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has challenged former military ruler Pervez Musharraf to prove his claim that he continues to be popular in Pakistan by contesting any by-election in the country, while warning that all those who violated Constitution would "face the music".

Addressing a meeting in the port city of Gwadar yesterday, Gilani urged Musharraf to "contest any by-election and gauge your popularity and real worth." The Prime Minister also warned that all those who had violated Pakistan's Constitution would "face the music."

Gilani said all military dictators had seized power in the name of eradicating corruption but subsequently used it as a tool to strengthen themselves. He said that Musharraf will be made to pay for abrogating the Constitution and ordering the military operation that resulted in the death of Baloch nationalist leader Nawab Akbar Bugti in 2006.

Musharraf resigned as President last year to avoid impeachment and has been living abroad since April this year. A slew of cases has been filed against him in courts across Pakistan since the Supreme Court declared in July that the emergency imposed by Musharraf in 2007 was illegal and unconstitutional
