Benazir Bhutto, through a Pakistan Peoples’ Party spokesman, called for the release of PML-N and other political workers who had gone to receive Nawaz Sharif at the airport in Islamabad.
“The Supreme Court of Pakistan had rightly ruled that a citizen has the right to return to Pakistan,” Farhat Ullah Babar conveyed to

But, “in view of this agreement (not to return to Pakistan or give interviews, etc, for 10 years), volunteering to give up his right to live in the country, it is a matter between Mr Nawaz Sharif, his guarantors and the courts of Pakistan. The PPP leadership refused a similar deal for self-benefit”.

had asked Bhutto a few days ago how she would react if Sharif was arrested and martial law declared, she had said that first it was to be seen if he would be detained and that “martial law was a distinct possibility but because of the judicial activism, it was unlikely to be promulgated”.
Her London spokesperson also iterated in an interview that the deportation was a setback to democracy but ‘Mian saheb’ should have kept in mind the agreement with the Pervez Musharraf government and talked to him first.
