Here are the basic definitions and numbers that you need to know on the occasion of Human Space Flight day.

What is a Human Space Flight?

Any spaceflight with a human crew is called a human space flight.

As of today there have been 306 human space flights.

Space flights which does not include a human crew are called unmanned space flights. Unmanned flights fall under two categories. First - animal space flights, in which animals were sent on space missions in earlier days as an experiment, and second - remote controlled flights, in which the missions are controlled from the ground.

Who is an astronaut?

Any person who passes the Kármán line - an imaginary line at an altitude of 100 km from earth's surface - is called an Astronaut.

There are 560 people who have been trained as astronauts (includes cosmonauts, spationauts and Taikonauts). 525 of them have been on space missions.

Only three nations - United States, USSR/Russia, China - have till now carried out and are capable of human space flight missions, although astronauts from 38 countries have travelled in them.

The following is a complete list of all the human space flight missions carried out till now. The list which was originally published by www.braeunig.us/ contains name of the spacecraft, crew, launch date, return date, duration and also remarks on the flight.

The following is a list of the first space traveller from from each country. The list uses the nationality of travellers at the time of launch. It was originally composed by network.
