Preparatory talks for the coming visit of the US President Barack Obama took off Thursday in Washington with a meeting between Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao and US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs William Burns.

Details of the meeting will be known late Thursday after their meeting. These would be the first substantive meeting at the senior level to firm up an agenda for Obama's coming visit, which, political analysts here are saying, will be high on symbolism but low on substance.
