An Indian national and three Nepalese have been arrested in Nepal in two separate cases for illegally possessing Indian currency.

An Indian national and three Nepalese have been arrested in Nepal in two separate cases for illegally possessing Indian currency.

The police yesterday arrested Anil Kumar Sharma, an Indian national, who was about to fly to Delhi on board an Indian Airlines flight from Tribhuvan International Airport.

The Airport security seized 140 notes of Rs 1,000 denomination from his briefcase during security check, the police said. Possessing Indian currency of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination is illegal in Nepal.

However, it is not known if the notes were fake or genuine, police said adding, Sharma has been handed over to Revenue Investigation Department for further investigation.

In second case, three Nepalese were arrested from western Nepalgunj on Monday for possessing fake Indian currency with a face value of Rs 400,000, police said.

Abdul Rahim (24), Dipak Khatrichhetri (30), and Bijaya Gautam (31) were arrested from Bambo Hotel at Gurudwara Road in Nepalgunj while they were selling the notes, police added.

Police seized 350 notes of Rs 500 denomination and 50 notes of Rs 1,000 denomination.
