An Indian national was detained at a Malaysian airport after allegedly trying to smuggle in seven kgs of methamphetamine drug.
The man, who was detained at the low-cost carrier terminal in Kuala Lumpur, had reportedly hidden the substance inside door mats in specially sewn compartments, customs officials said.
The door mats were found inside his bag on Thursday, the Star newspaper reported.
The daily said that customs officers had made three seizures including from the Indian national, who was not identified.
The other two seizures were from Nigerians.
The biggest single confiscation of the drug, weighing 10.6 kg, was made from two pieces of checked-in luggage that were abandoned at the baggage carousel at the international airport in Kuala Lumpur.
Tags of the luggage showed that they belonged to a Nigerian man who flew in from the Middle East via Bangkok, customs director Govinden Mutosamy said.
The seizure on Tuesday alone was estimated to be worth RM 2.65 million.
"We found a bag of white powder in a concealed compartment of the luggage, which was later confirmed as methamphetamine.
"The same substance was also found hidden in the metal handles of both bags," Govinden said.
