The cooperation between India and Nepal can help beat the effects of global slowdown and bring economic prosperity for the people, Indian Ambassador to the Himalayan nation Rakesh Sood has said.
India is the biggest partner in the economic development of Nepal, he said adding India stands by Nepal's stability, democratisation process, peace and prosperity.
"In this open society, we should be more cautious from extremism and terrorism in the wake of recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai," Ambassdor Sood pointed out.
India has shown that with a constitution based on fundamental principles of justice and equality the one billion population of the country can be turned into assets, he said.
Former Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa said that despite the challenges posed by terrorism from inside and outside the country, India has withstood these challenges and emerging as one of the powerful nations in the world.
India's independence movement and democratisation has not only benefited the Indian people but also helped in Nepal's democratisation process, Thapa said.
Vice President Paramananda Jha was the chief guest at the symposium organised by Nepal India Friendship Society in which a host of speakers including CPN-Maoist leader CP Gajurel and CPN-UML leader Bharat Mohan Adhikari shed light on various aspects of India-Nepal relations.
