John Paul II assailant set to be released from jail

A Turkish court has approved the release next week of Mehmet Ali Agca, the Turk who attempted to kill the late pope John Paul II in 1981, Anatolia news agency reported on Sunday.

A Turkish court has approved the release next week of Mehmet Ali Agca, the Turk who attempted to kill the late pope John Paul II in 1981, Anatolia news agency reported on Sunday.

The court approved a document from the Istanbul jail, where Agca is imprisoned, which said he had completed his term.

Agca was expected to be released between Tuesday and Sunday.
