Afghan President Hamid Karzai will hold talks with Pakistan's top leadership on bilateral matters and his fresh peace initiative with the Taliban on Wednesday, official and diplomatic sources said.
Pakistan's Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit said last week that Karzai will discuss his peace plan with Pakistani leaders during his visit to Islamabad.
Karzai will hold talks with his Pakistani counterpart Asif Ali Zardari and both leaders will hold a joint press conference, official sources said.
Karzai used his traditional Eid address to the nation to invite Taliban leader Mullah Omar to hold talks with the Afghan government.
The Taliban have said they will not hold talks unless foreign troops leave Afghanistan.
The Afghan President has set up a high peace council for talks with the Taliban in accordance with the recommendation of a Jirga or council of tribal elders held in June.
The names of the council's members will be announced soon, Afghan officials have said.
Karzai is also expected to visit flood-hit areas of Pakistan, sources said.
He appealed to Afghans in his Eid speech to help Pakistanis in this difficult time.
