Koirala’s ire against the cadres of Maoists’ Young Communist League (YCL) is natural as the members of the former insurgent outfit on November 18 were involved in kidnapping and thrashing doctors and the director of the Nobel Medical College.

It was a matter of great insult for the Prime Minister as the Nobel Medical College is in Biratnagar, his parliamentary constituency. The members of Nepal Medical Association (NMA) on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to Koirala.

The NMA demanded immediate action against the Maoist cadres and urged the government to security to the doctors working in the far-flung areas of the insurgency-ravaged Himalayan Nation.

The NMA members on Monday had also staged a strong protest in front of Singha Durbar, the seat of administration in Nepal demanding immediate action against the Maoist cadres.

Koirala directed Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula to immediately arrest the Maoist cadres involved in the incident and carry out legal action. This is for the first time during the last 18 months that the Prime Minister has ordered strong action against the Maoist cadres.
