A series of landslides triggered by torrential rains killed at least five people in Catanduanes province in eastern Philippines, the local television network GMA-News reported on Sunday.
Catanduanes Governor Joseph C Cua said several towns in the province were hit by landslides, which also blocked several roads.

The heavy rains, which started on Saturday, were caused by an active low-pressure area in the Pacific, some 40 kms north of Catanduanes, according to weather bureau reports.
The country is frequently hit by landslides due to typhoons and tropical storms.
