Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama conveyed his government's appreciation to visiting Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur for Indian assistance when she called on him here. Kaur is currently on a three day visit to Sri Lanka to attend the 8th Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Ministerial Meeting in Colombo.

Demining work carried out by the Sri Lanka Army and the Indian demining team are progressing expeditiously, Bogollagama said, adding more assistance was required to complete this process.

"The (Indian Minister) Kaur stated that she was aware of the difficulties in such an exercise and agreed to discuss the possibility of increasing assistance to Sri Lanka and referred to the offer of assistance for rebuilding the Duraiappa Stadium and establishing a cultural centre in Jaffna," the ministry release said.

"Smt. Kaur, responding to the Minister, stated that India was pleased to have been able to provide timely assistance and reiterated her Government's willingness to provide further humanitarian assistance in specific areas upon request," it said.
