Lanka to go for LTTE war probe

Sri Lanka plans to appoint a commission to probe into violations of internationally accepted norms of conduct during the last phase of the war between government troops and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

Sri Lanka plans to appoint a commission to probe into violations of internationally accepted norms of conduct during the last phase of the war between government troops and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

The commission would also investigate the circumstances that would have led to the violations and identify the persons or groups responsible.

Also for the first time, the commission would recommend compensation for war victims and their families who suffered during the conflict.
