Magnitude 5.6 quake hits Japan

An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale jolted the Honshu island of Japan early on Saturday, the US Geological Survey said. There were no immediate reports of casualties.

An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale jolted the Honshu island of Japan early on Saturday, the US Geological Survey said. There were no immediate reports of casualties.

The quake struck at 0100 (1600 GMT Friday). Its epicentre, at a depth of 24.50 km, was four kilometre east of Iwaki and 86 km southeast of Fukushima.
