Both leaders shook hands and exchanged pleasantries, Indian officials said here. No bilateral talks were held.

Obama and Manmohan Singh had a formal meeting in April on the sidelines of the G20 summit in London.

There was no formal meeting scheduled between Obama and Manmohan Singh here though top foreign ministry officials had maintained that they would be "in the same room at the same time".

Manmohan Singh met British Prime Minister Gordon Brown Wednesday and was scheduled to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and Angolan President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos.
