Chargé d’ Affaires of the US Embassy Randy Berry met Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal yesterday and conveyed his government’s concern on the Maoists’ 'undemocratic actions' including the on-going House obstruction, the planned declaration of the autonomous states and seizure of crops and land.

Such actions are inconsistent with the stated Maoist commitment to the peace process, the rule of law, and democratic practices, Berry told PM Nepal. Such undemocratic actions also threaten and undermine the peace process, he said.

Meanwhile, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR)-Nepal has expressed serious concern over the promotion of the Maoist cadres who were suspected to be involved in killing journalist Birendra Shah.

The OHCHR Representative in Nepal Richard Bennett Friday expressed his concerns on the reported promotions of the suspects in the killing of journalist Birendra Sah of Bara, according a to a release issued by the OHCHR Nepal.
