Undeterred by Maoists' movement against the CPN (UML)-led Government, Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala has said the protests by former rebels will not derail the peace process and hoped that the new Constitution will be drafted on time.
"As establishing lasting peace and drafting the constitution are the aspirations of the Nepalese people, nothing can stop the people from achieving them," Koirala, whose NC is part of the coalition, told reporters at his home town Biratnagar in eastern Nepal on Thursday.
Koirala's remarks come in the wake of Maoists launching a month long agitation programme seeking "civilian supremacy" in the country and forming a Maoist-led national consensus government by dislodging the current dispensation.
"The peace process will come to its logical conclusion and the constitution will be written within time. No agitation can affect them," he said.
Lasting peace, political stability, development and democracy are essential things for the country and people should work towards achieving these goals, he said.
"Nepalese people have fulfilled their dream of establishing a Republican system now the young generation should move ahead to build the nation," Koirala said.
