Nepal's Maoist chief Prachanda on Thursday requested Communist Party of Nepal (UML) to reconsider its decision to opt out of the government. All the CPN (UML) ministers had given in their resignations from the interim government on Wednesday after the party's poor performance in the Constituent Assembly (CA) election.
Prachanda on Thursday met senior CPN (UML) leader Madhav Kumar Nepal in Kathmandu and requested him to reconsider the decision, and re-join the government for the future of the country. The Maoists have taken the decision on unity of the seven-party alliance, for consensus on critical issues in future.
Though Madhav Nepal refused to reconsider the decision immediately, he assured all possible help to the Maoist chief, and said CPN (UML) is committed to seven-party unity.
However, the Nepali Congress on Thursday indicated that it was not in favour of withdrawing from the interim government immediately. An informal meeting of the party's Central Working Committee (CWC) held in Kathmandu, decided not to leave the government till the first sitting of the Constituent Assembly.
But, some of the leaders of Nepali Congress are insisting on leaving the interim government because of the party's performance in the CA election. A final decision will be taken during the formal meeting of the CWC on April 24.
