Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou may also join the informal talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and EU president Herman Van Rompuy, the diplomats said.

European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso may also take part in talks which will be held as EU leaders come under US pressure to contain a debt crisis that has sparked fears of a global spillover on financial markets.
