Michelle Obama, the first lady of the US, in less than five months of entering the White House, on Friday announced to replace her chief of staff with a long time Chicago friend.
The White House said that Susan Sher, a close friend and colleague of the First Lady, has been appointed as her Chief of Staff.
The change is being seen as a major shakeup in the staff of the First Lady.
Sher would replace Jackie Norris, who had been appointed as Senior Advisor to the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). Norris bonded with Obama during the 2008 primary campaign.
Identifying Norris as “a colleague and friend since the earliest days of the Iowa campaign”, Michelle Obama in a statement said: “She has built a strong organisation in the East Wing and made tremendous progress on issues that are important to me and the President, particularly in the area of national service.”
The First Lady said Sher has been her trusted advisor, longtime mentor and friend dating back to her work in Chicago and later at the University of Chicago.
