A minister of Pakistan’s Punjab province has been accused of patronising the banned Sipah-e-Sahaba terror group, prompting the federal government to say on Tuesday that it would initiate action to curb such activities.
Parliamentarians from several parties have said Rana Sanaullah, a senior leader of the PML-N and Law Minister of Punjab, visited a madrassa run by the Sipah-e-Sahaba and held a meeting with the group’s members during a visit to Jhang district on Sunday.
Sanaullah took senior Sipah-e-Sahaba leader Maulana Muhammad Ahmed Ludhianvi with him in his official vehicle.
A leading daily on Tuesday published a photo of them riding in the same car on Sunday.
Opposition PML-Q lawmaker Sheikh Waqas Akram first raised the issue in the National Assembly or lower house of parliament on Monday.
