The 16th ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement has ended by issuing a statement on the issue of Palestine, nuclear disarmament and comprehensive final document.
Discussions during the three-day event focused on prohibition of mass destruction arms, condemning terrorism, strengthening the status of the UN, rights of Palestinians, amending international structures, economic issues as well as international developments.
Comprehensive final document, Bali commemoration statement, NAM new statement, statement on Palestine and statement on the release of the Palestinian prisoners in Israel are the five documents approved by NAM member states during the event that concluded on Friday.
The 118-member movement opened in Bali on Wednesday also focused on the leading global issues, including human rights, climate change, pandemics, food security and development.
Indonesia which hosted the event for the second time was one of the founders of NAM.
The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is a group of states considering themselves not aligned formally with or against any major power bloc. As of 2011, the movement had 118 members and 20 observer countries.
The organization was founded in Belgrade in 1961.
The purpose of the organization as stated in the Havana Declaration of 1979 is to ensure 'the national independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and security of non-aligned countries' in their 'struggle against imperialism, colonialism, neo-colonialism, racism, and all forms of foreign aggression, occupation, domination, interference or hegemony as well as against great power and bloc politics.'
