Nine people have been killed and three injured when two blasts ripped through illegal firework workshops.

The blast in a workshop in Luancheng county in the northern Hebei province left six people dead and injuring another, an official said.

Police have detained the suspects.

In the second explosion, three members of a family were killed and two others injured when they were making dynamite illegally at home in the southwestern Yunnan province yesterday, Xinhua news agency said quoting local officials.
