US President Barack Obama, has praised the police in New York for their "outstanding work" in securing the city during the UN General Assembly session, being attended by scores of world leaders.
"The President called into a counter-terrorism briefing of New York Police Department (NYPD) being given to John Brennan, counter-terrorism and homeland security advisor and thanked them for their outstanding work during the UNGA," White House Press Secretary, Robert Gibbs said in a statement.
He also expressed his appreciation and admiration for NYPD's terrific work throughout the ongoing terrorism investigation.
The President told the NYPD that he is particularly grateful for the exceptional teamwork shown by them over the past several weeks with other police departments including the Federal departments and agencies.
"Obama also called FBI Director Mueller and expressed his gratitude for the strong work of the Bureau and underscored the need to maintain vigilance and to continue the strong investigative and intelligence work that is critical to protecting the homeland from terrorist attacks," Gibbs said.
Both FBI and NYPD working together recently unearthed alleged plans of terrorist attacks at public places in New York on the lines of London and Mumbai when they seized 10 backpacks, leading to the arrest of three Afghan nationals from different parts of the country.
