A critic of the Bhutto family, Cowasjee was once a friend of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, before his shipping company got nationalised. After wrapping up his shipping business, Cowasjee turned to journalism and voiced his blunt opinions for more than 30 years.

Born on April 13, 1926, he completed his schooling from Bai Virbaijee Soparivala Parsi School and pursued further education at the DJ Science College.

In the first Bhutto government, his column on the kidnapping of a businessman by a minister in Benazir's government led to the eventual dismissal of the government.
