Paul the octopus, who shot to fame during the football World Cup with his flawless prediction of game results, has died peacefully in his sleep, his aquarium said on Tuesday.

“Devastated to discover that oracle octopus Paul had passed away overnight,” the Oberhausen Sea Life Centre aquarium said in a statement.

Paul correctly forecast all eight World Cup games he was asked to predict, including Spain’s 1-0 win over the Netherlands in the final.
