PPP ex-minister killed in Karachi violence

At least 17 people, including a former PPP lawmaker, have been killed in different incidents of firing and grenade attacks by criminal gangs in the Pakistani port city of Karachi.

At least 17 people, including a former PPP lawmaker, have been killed in different incidents of firing and grenade attacks by criminal gangs in the Pakistani port city of Karachi.

Most of the killings were reported in the southern Lyari neighbourhood, a Pakistan Peoples Party stronghold infested by powerful criminal gangs.

Among the victims were former member of the Pakistan national assembly Waja Karim Dad, who was shot dead at a restaurant in Lyaria. 63-year-old Waja was at the restaurant along with friends for Iftar when unknown gunmen opened fire on him killing four and injuring three others, the DawnNews reported.

In another incident, four people were killed, including a young girl, and seven others were injured in a series of five hand-grenade attacks in the Bhempora area of the city.

In a shooting spree in the Methadar area, two persons were killed and four others were injured. Police officials said 17 people were killed in the violence yesterday. A motorcycle and a rikshaw were also set on fire on Nepiar road. A
