Speaking at a function at Kirtipur, the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) chief indicated that tenure of the Constituent assembly, which ends on November 30, might be extended by another six months.
Prachanda said the first draft of the Constitution isn’t likely to be drafted within the given deadline. He said that top-level consultations between the major parties on contentious issues related to the peace process and the Constitution were heading in a positive direction and a breakthrough is expected soon.
Prachanda assured his party would act more responsibly in arriving at a consensus. Nepal’s peace process has remained stuck due to differences among parties over the number of ex-Maoist combatants to be integrated into security forces and ways to rehabilitate them.
