In a climbdown, Maoists chief Prachanda on Sunday said there is no alternative to the "politics of consensus" and hinted at joining a political mechanism with the ruling alliance so as to break the five-month-long parliamentary deadlock.
"There is no alternative to the politics of cooperation and collaboration to find a way of the present political stalemate," former Prime Minister Prachanda told reporters in Kathmandu after meeting Nepali Congress chief GP Koirala.
"We need to resolve the current crisis by forging cooperation and we have agreed to form a political mechanism involving three major parties -- Maoist, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML," the Unified CPN-M chief said.
"We are confident that we will be able to move forward by forging cooperation and collaboration by ending the political deadlock to take the peace process to its logical end and to draft the Constitution on time," he said.
He said that Koirala also wanted to move ahead unitedly by forging alliance among the major parties.
"We Nepalese are capable of resolving our problems by ourselves, and there is no alternative to the politics of consensus among the political parties," Prachanda said quoting Koirala.
