Prince William, Kate spend Christmas apart

Britain's Prince William and his fiancee Kate Middleton have reportedly spent their first Christmas separately since their engagement in October as the second-in-line to the British throne put duty before family gatherings.

Britain's Prince William and his fiancee Kate Middleton have reportedly spent their first Christmas separately since their engagement in October.

The second-in-line to the British throne, who is a military chopper pilot, put duty before family gatherings on the Christmas day and was on call with his search and rescue helicopter squadron, the Sunday Express reported.

William had lunch in his flight suit with colleagues at an Royal Air Force canteen on their base on Anglesey. It's traditional for unmarried servicemen to work at Christmas.

Meanwhile, Kate she spent the day with her parents, brother and sister in Bucklebury, the prosperous country village some 80 kilometres west of London.

The couple, both 28, who got engaged while on holiday in Kenya in October, are set to tie the knot on April 29 next year at Westminster Abbey.

Last week, Britain released the first commemorative coin to mark Prince William's and Kate's engagement. The coin is available in solid gold for 1,550 pounds while the sterling silver plated in gold version will be sold for 85 pounds. The silver coin is available for 55.50 pounds.
