Qureshi, who made a stop over in London while on his way to Islamabad from United States, met Sharif at his Park Lane apartment residence.

The two leaders are reported to have discussed the political situation in Pakistan during their 40-minute long meeting.

The meeting assumes significance in the wake of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani convening a meeting of ruling coalition on July 23-24 to forge a new strategy to counter a surge in terrorism and to resolve contentious issues that have affected the working of the alliance.

Gilani on Monday had telephoned Sharif and invited him to the meet. Sharif had told the Prime Minister said that his brother Shahbaz would represent the PML-N at the meeting if he could not personally attend it.

Qureshi also apprised the PML-N leader about his meeting with UN chief Ban Ki-moon and US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, according to APP.
