The followers of Baba Ramdev in Nepal have rejected allegations that Acharya Balkrishna, a key aide of the yoga guru, was involved in illegal activities.
The allegations made against Acharya Balkrishna was totally baseless and aimed at character assassination, said Shalik Ram Singh, the coordinator of Patanjali Yogpeeth, Nepal, established by 46-year-old Ramdev.
Allegations have surfaced in the media that Balkrishna, who was a key negotiator with the Indian government on behalf of Ramdev on the issue of corruption, was a Nepali citizen and was involved in tax evasion.
Singh said Balkrishna has visited Nepal many times for teaching yoga and he met reputed personalities in the country.
According to Singh, Balkrishna was born in Hardwar while his father, a Nepali national, had visited India in connection with some work.
Balkrishna was born and grew up in India, so how can he commit any crime in Nepal, he asked.
Hundreds of supporters of Ramdev protested in Kathmandu on against the crackdown on the yoga guru and his followers in New Delhi.
Members of Patanjali Yogpeeth submitted a memorandum to the Indian Embassy officials condemning police action terming it to be against human rights in a democratic country like India.
"We are not anti-Indians, we are just opposing the inhumane treatment meted out to the followers of Ramdev by the police during their satyagraha," Singh said.
