US special envoy for Pakistan and Afghanistan Richard Holbrooke is in Islamabad to hold talks with the top leadership of the country on wide range of issues, including plight of internal refugees.
"Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke is traveling to Pakistan July 21 through 23 and then subsequently to Afghanistan," the State Department spokesman Robert Wood told reporters.
In Islamabad, Holbrooke will focus on a range of economic and security issues, in particular the situation of the internal refugees and reconstruction plans for their return to their homes.
"He is scheduled to meet with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Army Chief General Ashfaq Kayani, and General Ahmad Pasha (of the ISI)," Wood said.
In Islamabad, Holbrooke also plans to meet with representatives of those people displaced by fighting against Taliban militants in the northwest of the country.
From Pakistan, Holbrooke is scheduled to travel to Afghanistan.
Last week, the Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs, Philip J Crowley had said that Holbrooke would also be visiting India, but there was no word from Wood on his trip to New Delhi.
