SAARC home ministers to deliberate on security issues in Kathmandu

The deliberations are part of the three-tier 6th SAARC home ministerial meet that began on Wednesday with a meeting of senior immigration officials from all member states.

Home secretaries of SAARC countries will meet on Thursday and it will be followed by the meeting of home ministers on Friday.
“Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh will land here on Thursday. Pakistan’s interior minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan won’t be attending the meeting,” said home ministry spokesperson Laxmi Prasad Dhakal.
The meeting will deliberate on ways to coordinate between member states to tackle terrorism, smuggling of drugs and counterfeit currency, cyber crimes and trafficking of women and children in the region.
Besides taking part in the meeting Singh will also meet his Nepali counterpart Bamdev Gautam separately. He will also meet President Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister Sushil Koirala.
Bilateral issues like cooperation on cross border crime including smuggling, the pending extradition and mutual legal assistance treaties and intelligence sharing will be discussed during these meetings.
